Scout Programs

Scout Programs are designed to help scouts of all levels earn the new RIVERBANKS Wildlife patch.

Scout Saturdays
Scheduled Dates & Times: Saturday, June 8—World Oceans Day Edition @ 1:00pm
Saturday, September 21—Enrichment Day Edition @ 1:00pm
Saturday, October 19—Reptile Day Edition @ 1:00pm
Program Fees: $10 Scouts (One adult per child is admitted free into the Scout Saturday Program. Admission to the Zoo is not included, but required.)

Join us for a wild day at the Zoo and earn credits towards badge requirements, achievements and electives. Programs are designed specifically for Daisy, Brownie, Junior Scouts and Cub Scouts. Scout Days start with a brief interactive educational program including live animal encounters, games and activities. Age-specific materials for a self-guided adventure into the Zoo are also provided. Zoo admission is not included. Program will be held in the Discovery Center.

Special Scout Saturday Editions are designed to work in conjunction with special events at the Zoo and feature activities for scouts that are related to the day's event. Please plan on arriving early to take advantage of these special activities and visit the themed stations located throughout the park. Information stations, games and activities will be offered at no additional charge and are open to the public.

Wild About Scouts: Evening Expedition
Scheduled Dates & Times: Saturday, August 10 @ 6:30–8:30pm
Program Fees: $10 Scouts (ages: 5 to 13) / $5 Adults

Journey to the Zoo for an after hours adventure to learn about animals from around the world and view them in another light…moonlight! This wild night will begin with live animal encounters, games and activities that will journey into the world of wildlife at night! Finally, we will head out on a twilight trek to explore even more and experience a night hike to remember!*

Program and activities will work towards both Cub Scout Electives and Achievements and Girl Scout Journeys, Try-Its or Badge Requirements depending on troop work.

Boy Scouts Creepy Creature Feature and Trick-or-Treat Trek
Scheduled Dates & Times: Saturday, October 26 @ 5:30–9:00pm
Program Fees: $22 Scouts (ages 5-13) / $10 Adults
We dare you and your troop or pack to join us for an "engrossing" evening adventure at Riverbanks Zoo! The Boy Scouts Creature Feature and Trick-or-Treat Trek is a not-so-scary night of creepy crawly critters and candy, of course! The Creepy Creature Feature will include activities and animal encounters that highlight reptiles, insects and a few freaky feathered friends earning credits towards badge requirements for both Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts! This wild night will begin with a Creepy Meet and Greet. We will throw in a few mysterious activities and end with a Trick-or-Treat Trek, where you will change into your costume* and enjoy the popular Halloween spook-tacular Boo at the Zoo**! On your self-guided trek through Boo, you will experience Frankenstein's Foam Zone, an eeky freaky DJ dance party and a trick-or-treat trail with candy and so much more!
* You may come in costume; however, in order to participate in animal encounters, we ask that any make up/ props wait to be added until after program.
** Admission to Boo at the Zoo is included in the program fee.
Girl Scouts Bug-A-Boo Ball and Trick-or-Treat Trek
Scheduled Dates & Times: Friday, October 25 @ 5:30–9:00pm
Program Fees: $22 Scouts (ages 5-13) / $10 Adults
UGH! It's a bug and you and your troop are going to have a ball! You are invited to join us for this exciting evening adventure at Riverbanks Zoo! The Girl Scouts Bug-A-Boo Ball and Trick-or-Treat Trek is an eerie night of creepy crawly critters and candy, of course! The Bug-A-Boo Ball will include fun activities, games and animal encounters that will highlight what else…BUGS and maybe a few other freaky friends while earning credits towards badge requirements! This wild night will begin with a "buggy" themed S.W.A.Ps * Meet and Greet. We will throw in a few fabulously fun activities and end with a Trick-or-Treat Trek, where you will change into your costume* and enjoy the popular Halloween spook-tacular Boo at the Zoo**! On your self-guided trek through Boo, you will experience Frankenstein's Foam Zone, an eeky freaky DJ dance party and a trick-or-treat trail with candy and so much more!
* Please plan to participate and bring a bug themed SWAPs to exchange with your fellow Girl Scouts.

Girl Scouts Gift-A-Paloo-ZOO and Holly Jolly Night Hike
Scheduled Dates & Times: Friday, December 6 and Saturday, December 7 @ 5:30–9:00pm
Program Fees: $22 Scouts (ages 5-13) / $10 Adults
Join us for our most popular Girls Scouts Night Out Holiday Event—Gift-A-Paloo-ZOO! Come see the Zoo in a different light…with nearly one million twinkling lights! There will be plenty to see and lots to do! Gift-A-Paloo-ZOO is a fun-filled evening of crafts, animal encounters and activities that will earn credits towards your badge requirements and journeys. We will be making gifts for your pets at home, the Zoo's education animals and those furry friends without a home for Christmas (maybe even one for you too)! The wildest night ever will begin with a SWAPs meet*. Squeeze in a few "cool" activities and end with a Holly Jolly Night Hike, where you will enjoy Lights Before Christmas**! On your self-guided hike, you will see some of Riverbanks' most loved residents as colorful animated images and have the opportunity to take a photo with Santa, see it snow, roast marshmallows and sip hot cocoa at the Jingle Bell Bonfire!
* Please plan to participate and bring an animal themed SWAPs to exchange with your fellow Girl Scouts.
** Admission to Lights Before Christmas is included in the program fee.
NOTE FOR ALL SCOUT PROGRAMS: Children may not be left unattended. Individual scouts must be accompanied by an adult; troops should have at least one adult per 10 scouts in attendance. A minimum of 20 registered participants is required to conduct all Scout Programs as scheduled and described above. Scout Program Fees are non-refundable.
