[Columbia, SC] - Dads at home and abroad are being honored by Riverbanks Zoo and Garden this Father's Day. All fathers will receive free admission on Sunday along with children of deployed military personnel who can't celebrate the special day with their dads.
"We're glad to be able to make a day like this happen," said Satch Krantz, executive director for Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. "We're particularly glad to be able to offer something like this to deployed military personnel. It's got to be difficult missing these holidays, but we hope it helps soldiers to know that their kids are having a great time on a day that would typically feel a little lonely for them."
Military families with a parent deployed overseas must bring a copy of the parent's military orders to take advantage of the promotion. A military ID card does not constitute proof of deployment. Despite the fact that Father's Day honors dads, the Zoo is also extending the offer to kids with moms deployed overseas as well.
Operation Military Kids, a support group for families of deployed military personnel, will be on site. Military families with questions about whether they qualify for the promotion should call Operation Military Kids at 803.968.0388.
