[Columbia, SC] - SCE&G’s ZooView webcam will feature Riverbanks Zoo and Garden’s two youthful grizzly bears throughout the month of October. The grizzlies are a crowd favorite amongst visitors of the Zoo and are sure to amuse and entertain viewers of the webcam.
“At four years old, our two male grizzly bears, Butch and Sundance are two of the most active and engaging animals at the Zoo,” said John Davis, curator of mammals at Riverbanks. “Typically, our guests really enjoy spending time at their exhibit.”
Butch and Sundance arrived at Riverbanks in 2002 when they were found by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game at Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. The two brothers were estimated to be four months old at the time. Their sister is at the Denver Zoo. Butch, the heavier of the two weighs 330 pounds and Sundance weighs 315 pounds.
Grizzly bears are omnivores and they feed on plants, berries, fruits and small mammals. Their diets vary due to their geographic location. In addition, grizzly bears feed on fish like salmon and trout. Throughout the month, viewers of the webcam can watch Butch and Sundance enjoy one of their favorite treats, ice blocks prepared by the keepers that are filled with fresh berries and fruit.
Throughout the day, viewers are sure to enjoy watching the bears swim, wrestle and chase each other around the exhibit. Due to their youthful age, they are very energetic.
