[Columbia, SC] - The SCE&G ZooView webcam will move from Riverbanks Zoo and Garden’s grizzly bear exhibit to sea lions for the month of November. Webcam viewers will get an extra treat this month at 10:30am and 3:00pm each day when the staff and volunteers perform the popular twice daily sea lion training demonstrations.
“The ZooView traveling tour has become an excellent educational tool. We are pleased to offer the public the opportunity to watch the behavior and habits of an animal for an entire month,” said Satch Krantz, executive director at Riverbanks. “The rotating schedule gives Riverbanks the opportunity to highlight not one but many of our animals in our collection.”
Riverbanks currently has three California sea lions on exhibit. The largest and only male in the group is Zuma. He is 15 years old and weighs about 400 pounds. He arrived at Riverbanks in April 2001 from Milwaukee. The two female sea lions are named Sonoma and Bonnie Lou.
Zuma has a vast knowledge of behaviors and is one of the best trained animals at the zoo. These skills are displayed daily at the sea lion training demonstrations. Throughout the demonstration the sea lions are rewarded with their favorite food, fish. In addition, the sea lions enjoy small crustaceans and cephalopods, like squid.
