[Columbia, SC] - Due to popular demand, the SCE&G ZooView webcam will remain stationary for an extra month at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden’s sea lion exhibit. Webcam viewers will get an extra treat this month when they tune into the daily sea lion training demonstrations at 10:30am and 3:00pm and experience a complete audio-visual presentation.
“Thanks to the installation of a new sound feature, ZooView now gives webcam viewers the opportunity to learn educational information about California sea lions. Each day presenters will entertain the viewers with facts about training, enrichment and individual information about the Zoo’s sea lions,” said John Davis, curator of mammals at Riverbanks.
Riverbanks currently has three California sea lions on exhibit. The largest and only male in the group is Zuma. He is 15 years old and weighs about 400 pounds. He arrived at Riverbanks in April 2001 from Milwaukee. The two female sea lions are named Sonoma and Bonnie Lou.
Zuma has a vast knowledge of behaviors and is one of the best trained animals at the Zoo. These skills are displayed daily at the sea lion training demonstrations. The sea lions are rewarded with their favorite food, fish. In addition, the sea lions enjoy small crustaceans and cephalopods, like squid.
To access the SCE&G ZooView webcam, viewers can visit a number of different Web sites: www.riverbanks.org; www.scegzooview.com; www.wltx.com and www.niethestate.com.
