[Columbia, SC] - For the second straight year, SCE&G’s ZooView webcam at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden has ranked internationally among the most unique and compelling webcams of 2006 by EarthCam.com. The webcam, which spent 2005 with the koalas, began a monthly rotation to showcase a broader slice of the Zoo’s collection in May 2006.
“We are honored to receive this award not once, but twice. The traveling tour of our ZooView webcam has captivated the public and further supports our commitment to educate the communities we serve,” said Satch Krantz, executive director at Riverbanks. “This honor would not be possible without the help of our sponsors, SCE&G, WLTX and The State.”
Selected from thousands of nominees, EarthCam’s top 25 webcams provide viewers with snapshots of regions around the world. From Italy to Japan, recipients of this honor showcase white beluga whales, bald eagle’s nests and a space shuttle in orbit. The SCE&G ZooView webcam is only one of two zoo webcams selected (Toronto Zoo’s Baby Tiger Cam is the other).
The ZooView webcam is currently on Riverbanks’ penguin coast exhibit now through December 31. The list of scheduled exhibits for 2007 includes:
| January 4 |
Gorillas |
| February 8 |
Meerkats |
| March 8 |
