[Columbia, SC] - The popular First Thursdays in the Garden series, sponsored by Woodley’s Garden Center, kicks off this Thursday at Riverbanks Botanical Garden. Visitors who may not have made it to a wedding or other special nighttime events will be able to experience the Garden in the evening the first Thursday of each month now through October.
“First Thursdays is not your typical after hours retreat,” said Andy Cabe, curator of horticulture at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. “It’s a relaxing way to unwind from the workday and surround yourself with the natural beauty of the Garden.”
This Thursday, Garden-goers will enjoy the folkadelic sounds of local musicians, Bentz Kirby and Friends. Whether it’s jazz, acoustic or light rock, each month the event will feature local entertainment. In addition, a variety of local artists will be on-site demonstrating their talents in everything from mosaics and watercolors to sculpting and casting leaves in concrete. Beer and wine and a variety of sandwiches and wraps will also be available for purchase.
Horticulture staff along with Clemson Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer general gardening and plant questions. Garden lovers can fall in step with impromptu tours that will be offered throughout the evening.
In 2004, Riverbanks Botanical Garden was named one of the nation’s most inspiring gardens by Horticulture Magazine and HGTV rated it one of the 20 best public gardens in America.
The Garden will be open from 6 to 9pm. Admission is $2 for Riverbanks members and $4 for the general public.
