Pre-sale orders are now being accepted online at http://www.riverbanks.org, giving gardeners the first choice on these premium picks before the Fall Bulb Sale in November.  “The variety of bulbs that are sold each year are hand selected by the horticulture staff,” said Melodie Scott-Leach, director of horticulture at Riverbanks. “Not only do we sell bulbs that we know will grow well in South Carolina’s climate, but we also look for bulbs that guests have really enjoyed viewing in the Garden.”
This year Riverbanks offers daffodils, tulips, crinums and other miscellaneous bulbs. They range in a variety of colors, textures and fragrances. Popular new selections that have been added to the sale include the Narcissus ‘Sir Winston Churchil’, Narcissus ‘Quail’ and the Tulipa ‘Viking’. All bulbs listed are currently available on Riverbanks’ Web site. Between now and October 31 gardeners can go online and click on the Fall Bulb Sale link on the homepage to pre-order their spring bulbs. Viewers can click on the bulb’s name to preview an image and read a brief description. Shipping costs are an additional 10% of the total order or a minimum charge of $5 and a maximum charge of $25, but you can save money, packaging and time by planning to pick up your advance order on the day of the sale. “Pre-sale orders are encouraged to insure that your favorite bulb is available on the day of the sale,” said Scott-Leach. “Gardeners that plan to shop on the day of the sale should arrive early, since many of the bulbs go fast.” Riverbanks’ Bulb Sale is on Saturday, November 17, in the Bog Garden Plaza at the West Columbia entrance. The sale runs from 9am to 2pm, and pre-orders may be picked up at the Garden ticket area at this time. Bulbs will be available to purchase on the day of the sale.
