| Garden Photography Contest Runs Now through October |
[Columbia, SC] - Calling all amateur photographers, Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is hosting its first garden photography contest. The deadline for submissions is October 31, and the winners will be announced in December. “Photography is an art, and we believe that the Botanical Garden is a work of art,” said Satch Krantz, executive director of Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. “This is a fun and seamless way to blend the two together. It’s a win-win for all. The winner of the contest will get to showcase their talent throughout different venues at the Zoo and Garden.”
Those individuals interested in entering the contest must submit photographs taken only at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. Entries will be judged in the following five categories: black and white, floral or plant close-up, garden overview, critters in the Garden and youth photo (open only to children ages 10 through 16). A Best Photo Award will be chosen from each of these five categories by a panel of judges. The judges aren’t the only ones who will get to have their say in the contest. There will be a Viewer’s Choice Award online for the general public to select their favorite out of the top 20 photographs. All photographs must be submitted in electronic format and a hard copy. Applicants must read and agree to the contest rules, and submissions must be accompanied by a completed, signed entry form attached to the back of the photograph. The winners in each category will receive a private, after-hours photo shoot in the Zoo or Garden, as well as a special package of flowering bulbs. The winning photographs will be published in Riverbanks magazine. The top four photos will be displayed during Lights Before Christmas. In exchange, Riverbanks reserves the right to display or publish any photo in promotional materials with photo credit.
