Gardeners from across the state will visit Riverbanks Botanical Garden this Saturday, November 17, from 9am to 12pm for the annual Fall Bulb Sale. The sale will take place in the Bog Garden Plaza just inside the Garden entrance off Highway 378 in West Columbia. “Riverbanks’ horticulture staff adds popular new selections every year,” said Andy Cabe, curator of horticulture at Riverbanks. “Each year we choose a wide variety of bulbs that will not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of your garden, but will also grow well in South Carolina’s climate.” This year Riverbanks offers daffodils, tulips, crinums and other miscellaneous bulbs. They range in a variety of colors, textures and fragrances. Popular new selections that have been added to the sale include the Narcissus ‘Sir Winston Churchill’, Narcissus ‘Quail’ and the Tulipa ‘Viking’. Riverbanks horticulturists, as well as horticulturists from the Clemson Extension, will be on hand to answer any garden-related questions that guests may have. These horticulturists can offer tips on when you should plant specific bulbs and the care and maintenance that each specific bulb requires. “Gardeners who purchased bulbs online during the pre-sale can pick them up the day of the event,” said Cabe. “Gardeners planning to shop on Saturday should arrive early as many of the varieties are sure to sell out quickly.” Admission to the Bulb Sale is free; however, guests will have to pay admission to the Garden if they plan to stay once the event is finished.
