[Columbia, SC] - Join Riverbanks' expert horticulturists and the staff of Clemson Extension as they prepare you for a successful growing season and provide you with creative ways to make your garden the envy of the neighborhood at the Spring Time at the Garden Festival, Saturday, March 22, 2008. Guests attending the festival can learn a new skill at one of the many timed demonstrations, purchase a garden-related gift from more than 30 vendors, have their soil tested and receive answers to tough gardening questions. “You do not have to be an expert gardener to enjoy this event,” said Amanda Segura, garden education coordinator at Riverbanks Botanical Garden. “There will be vendors scattered throughout the Garden selling everything from jewelry to handmade soap; classes are available for those who love crafts or those who love to cook, and there will be special activities just for kids. There truly is something for everyone at the festival.” Interactive demonstrations being held throughout the day will include topics such as gardening in small spaces, composting, making creative planters out of broken chairs and old tires, cooking with herbs, caring for your garden tools, plant pounding (for kids) and painting flower pots. The educational tables will house information on managing those pesky fire ants and maintaining your yard. Clemson Extension will be available to answer questions at the home and garden information center, and you can learn about upcoming events happening in the Botanical Garden at the garden information booth. The Spring Time at the Garden Festival will run from 9am to 3pm, and the event is free with paid admission to the Garden. For more information, call 803.779.8717 x1799.
