[Columbia, SC] - Riverbanks Zoo and Garden revs up Riverbanks on the Road, a new conservation education program that brings the Zoo to you. Riverbanks Zoo and Garden has historically been an expert resource for educators throughout the Midlands,” said Heather Doggett, director of conservation education at Riverbanks. “With the launch of Riverbanks on the Road, we now can serve the community as a source for high-quality, in-class programming as well.” Riverbanks on the Road is the ultimate interactive learning experience. Live animals and biofacts (biological artifacts) will accompany the presenter in the classroom to engage and excite children about science and conservation. The programs offered are aligned with the South Carolina science standards and also adhere to the conservation messages developed by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). The presentations are between 45 minutes and one hour in length and cost $125 for a class of 30 students. Each additional presentation booked for a class will be discounted to $75. Curriculums are currently offered for grades K – 8 with assembly-size and high school presentations available in 2009. Programs are not limited strictly to schools. They are open to any group, such as a daycare, home school group or after school program that can provide an adequate space. Riverbanks on the Road presentations are booked on a first-come first-served basis. Classes can be scheduled by calling 803.779.8717 x1140 or by emailing soswanski@riverbanks.org. All animal safety requirements must be met before the presentation date.
