Experience Riverbanks Zoo through the eyes of the animal care staff. Walk on the “wild side” as you get an inside look at some out-of-sight places. Encounter animals up close, explore behind the scenes and meet experienced keepers. Adventure Tours allow participants to marvel at the unique challenges of animal care and the amazing efforts that go into creating and sustaining a world-class zoo.

| + African Adventure Tour |
Explore Africa at Riverbanks! Trek through some out-of-sight areas with your very own guide. Discover the elephant and giraffe barns, feed the giraffes and get up-close to an African animal. Tour is designed for groups of 15 to 25 and available Tuesday through Friday, 12:30pm until 1:30pm. This tour is available through pre-registration only; please call 803.978.1110 at least two weeks in advance.

Most tours take place on Saturdays and last one or two hours. The African Adventure Tour is available Tuesday – Friday. (Wear walking shoes!) |

Tour participants will meet a tour guide in Carousel Plaza. To ensure the best quality experience, we ask that participants arrive on time. |

All tours include a live animal encounter. |
|
Most tours include take-home items and a coupon for a free refreshment (available the day of the tour). |
|
Space is limited: Most tours can accommodate up to 12 guests. The African Adventure Tour can accommodate groups of 15-25. |

Preregistration is recommended (online only). |
|
Tours are designed for adults and older children. Recommended age range is 8 and up; all children under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult. For safety reasons, infants may not participate in behind-the-scenes tours. |

Due to the unpredictability of animals, tour experiences may vary. Participants must abide by staff instructions at all times. |

Written or verbal cancellations must be received at least two weeks before the scheduled program date in order to receive a refund or to reschedule your reservation. |
|
No refunds will be issued for cancellations made less than two weeks before the program date. |
|
Tours run rain or shine! Refunds will be given only if the program needs to be cancelled by Riverbanks. Zoo staff will contact tour participants if program is cancelled. |
